EARLY SHOWA (1926-1938) PURPLE SHIBORI HAORI WITH WHITE TE-HITOME KANOKO DESIGN The antique silk for this haori is lightweight. It has been decorated in a technique called shibori. This is an ancient tie-dye that the Japanese have refined to the maximum. This particular tie is called te-hitome kanoko or half dots. It is a distinctive form, the dot fills one half of the resisted area. The shape is usually almond or oval. In addition ot the overall pattern of white and purple dots, large sections have been reserved in purple. These areas are further decorated in a te-hitome kanoko design that looks like camellias.
