Fine Japanese Kimono

PRE WW II MONTSUKI WITH FREE HAND YUZEN FANS, CARTS AND BRIDGE.

The silk for this formal kimono is lightweight. The hem is ornately painted in a motif of fans, carts and a bridge. The design is augmented by embroidery. The monsuki is recognized by its hems mirror image design. It was a traditional wedding gown. Typically the sleeves were shortened after the wedding and the gown became a tomesode or a married womans most formal gown. The hems design has gold cord outlines and some gold paint. The design is complex. It features ornate fans with a hand painted bridge next to an imperial cart. Bridges are sometimes the symbol for battles. The gown has five family crests in the paulonia motif. The montsuki is fully lined and has a stain at the center back. When worn it would be under the obi. 48 x 56
