TAISHO ERA MONTSUKI WITH PINE BOUGHS, CHRYSANTHEMUMS AND WATER WITH PAULOWNIA MON

The silk for this formal kimono is lightweight. The hem is ornately painted in rich colors. The motif features pine boughs and chrysanthemums on water. The design is augmented by embroidery. The soft blue tones are especially pretty in this pattern. The monsuki is recognized by the mirror image on the hem. This kimono is a traditional wedding gown of the Taisho era. After the wedding its sleeves were shortened. Then the altered gown became a tomesode and could be worn for formal dress occasions. The family crest is paulownia motif. The tomesode is fully lined. The bodice is lined in scarlet silk and the hem is self lined. It is in remarkable condition for its age. 49 x 58
